Masters of Design

A Curated Exhibition at Sotheby's Hong Kong

March 20 - 26, 2017

Press Release

I am honored to have this opportunity to present works by four of the 20th century's most celebrated designers. Today the vision and superlative craft of these historic figures continues to have a profound impact, inspiring both collectors and contemporary artisans around the world. For more than a decade it has been the commitment of VINTAGE20 to showcase the very best of Mid-Century designs, specializing in works by Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier amongst others. The works on view represent the very finest examples of these four acknowledged masters. In particular, the collaboration between Jeanneret and his cousin Le Corbusier designing Chandigarh, has resulted in works that today are celebrated around the world. Also, Prouvé's superb use of aluminum is one of his most defining legacies and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to show such a unique piece. I am especially proud to be showing a selection of this caliber in Hong Kong.

It gives me tremendous satisfaction to see the growing appreciation for furniture and design across Asia. There are important historical connections between modern design and the region, and today these connections are as strong and as important as ever; an exhibition like this provides a vital opportunity to connect the two.
